معرفی
Helen Steed is a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, University of Alberta. She currently serves as Zone Clinical Department Head of Oncology, Facility Medical Director at the Cross Cancer Institute, and Associate Senior Medical Director for Cancer Care Alberta (2022-Present). Previously, she held leadership roles as Academic Division Director and Section Chief of Gynecologic Oncology for Alberta Health Services (2018-2022) and Resident Program Director for Obstetrics and Gynecology (2012-2018).
Her research centers on gynecologic oncology with emphasis on robotic and minimally invasive surgical techniques for uterine and ovarian malignancies. Key focus areas include immunotherapy applications, obesity-related endometrial cancer pathways, chemoresistance mechanisms in ovarian cancer, and optimization of surgical workflows including same-day discharge protocols. Her clinical practice integrates multidisciplinary tumor board approaches to enhance cancer care coordination.
Analysis of her 14 most recent publications (2020-2023) reveals consistent contributions to endometrial and ovarian cancer management, particularly in sentinel lymph node mapping, robotic surgery outcomes, and biomarker discovery. Her work frequently employs multicenter international collaborations and leverages genomic/proteomic technologies to address clinical challenges in gynecologic oncology.
Dr. Steed has earned significant recognition for medical education:
- Canadian Association of Medical Education (CAME) National Teaching Award (2017)
- CREOG Teaching Award (2013)
- APOG Teaching Award (2014)
Her educational leadership spans undergraduate medical education, residency training as former Program Director (2012-2018), and specialized robotic surgery instruction for national Gyne Oncology Fellows. While specific grant details aren't provided, her research output demonstrates sustained funding support through clinical-academic roles and consortium participation.
She actively contributes to multidisciplinary tumor teams and tumor board processes, driving evidence-based cancer care standardization across Alberta's health system.
