Helen Ringrow is an Associate Professor in Contemporary Discourse at the School of Education, Languages and Linguistics, Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, University of Portsmouth. She serves as Associate Head (Research and Innovation), actively supervises PhD students, and contributes to the Centre for European & International Studies Research and Centre for Studies in Literature.
Her research focuses on Critical Discourse Analysis, Stylistics, and Cognitive Linguistics, particularly examining:
- Advertising language and consumerism
- Online discourse (social media, blogs, YouTube)
- Gender and body image in media
- Language and religion
- Social justice and inequality
- UN Sustainable Development Goals (Gender Equality, Reduced Inequalities)
Recent publications analyze restock videos (2025), abortion discourse (2024), and media literacy toolkits (2024). She co-edited Contemporary Media Stylistics (Bloomsbury, 2020) and The Routledge Handbook of Language and Religion (2023).
Scientific recognition includes:

She leads projects like 'Young Women and Body Image' and co-organizes international conferences. Her work appears in outlets like Discourse & Society, with contributions to parliamentary media literacy inquiries.
