Helen He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Calgary's Faculty of Science. Her research focuses on human-centered technologies to address societal challenges through inclusive design and social computing principles. She leads the C3 Lab, which explores overcoming cultural barriers in collaboration, redesigning social media to combat loneliness, and empowering communities with open data visualization.
Dr. He holds a Ph.D. in Informatics from the University of Zurich (2017), an M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Calgary (2010), and a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the same institution (2007).
Her research interests span Social Computing, Inclusive Design, and Human-Computer Interaction, with a focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). The C3 Lab's work integrates computer science, psychology, media art, and cultural anthropology to create technologies that foster collaboration and community.
Dr. He teaches CPSC 601.xx: Special Topics in Computer Science (Inclusive Design) and actively contributes to multidisciplinary research in technology and social good.
