Dr Helen Drew is an Assistant Professor in Psychology at the University of Sussex's School of Psychology. Her work focuses on supporting children and young people in care and care leavers, particularly regarding mental health and wellbeing. She holds a PhD from the University of Sussex (2018) and has extensive experience in primary education before transitioning to academia.

Her research interests revolve around developmental psychology, foster care systems, and trauma-informed interventions. Notable projects include co-producing guidance for care leavers post-lockdown and evaluating safeguarding systems in London Borough of Hackney. Her grants include a project on tracking social/emotional development in traumatized children (2022–2026) and a NIHR-funded study on care leaver support (2020). She collaborates with institutions like The Rees Centre and the Creative Research Collective.
