Helen Davis serves as a Professor in the English Department within Wilkes University's College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Her academic home is in Kirby Hall 308 where she teaches courses including English Composition (Eng 101), Introduction to Literature (Eng 120), British Literature (Eng 234), Romantic Literature (Eng 335), Victorian Literature (Eng 336), and Rhetoric (Eng 308). Dr. Davis joined Wilkes University because of its commitment to mentoring and has developed a reputation for innovative teaching through technology integration and experiential learning.
Her research focuses on nineteenth-century British literature with particular expertise in Charlotte Brontë's works, narrative theory, and queer and feminist literary criticism. Dr. Davis approaches her scholarship through multiple theoretical lenses including gender studies, LGBTQ+ perspectives, and rhetorical analysis. She brings these diverse perspectives into her classroom to foster critical thinking, effective communication, and active engagement with the world.
Dr. Davis's scholarly work demonstrates a consistent focus on narrative structures in Victorian literature, particularly examining how gender identity and autonomy are constructed through narrative techniques. Her publications reveal a trajectory from examining focalization patterns in Jane Eyre to analyzing circumnarration in Villette and The Picture of Dorian Gray, showing increasing sophistication in queer theoretical approaches to narrative structure.

She also co-chairs the Council on Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity (CODIE) and facilitates a Facebook page for LGBT Wilkes alumni. Her community engagement extends to coordinating similar programs for Misericordia University, King's College, and local school systems, demonstrating leadership that extends beyond the university walls.
