Dr. Heleen Delbeke is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, KU Leuven, affiliated with the Department of Neurosciences. Her research focuses on Ocular Surface Microbiome Research, Corneal Pathology and Surgery, Refractive Surgery, and Cataract Surgery.
Recent projects include:
- Platelet Lysate Derived Eyedrops (2024–2026): Investigating clinical applications for ocular surface healing.
- Ocular Surface Microbiome in Post-Operative Dry Eye Disease (2023–2027): Analyzing microbial influences on surgical outcomes.
Her publications highlight interdisciplinary work bridging Ophthalmology, Microbiology, and Genetics, with a focus on ocular microbiome analysis, corneal transplantation, and dry eye disease. She contributes to clinical trials on intraocular lens implantation and cost-effectiveness of intraoperative OCT.
