Helder Ferraz is a researcher at the Center for Research and Educational Intervention (CIIE) at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Porto, Portugal. He holds a PhD in Educational Sciences and contributes to European research projects such as CLEAR (Horizon Europe), CAOP, EducHate, and Erasmus+ initiatives including SINCALA and BestCare4LGBTQI+. He is also the Operations Director at RYOT – Research on Youth Opportunities and Transitions, and an active member of the Community of Research Practices (CoPIn) under the PCEP research group at CIIE-UP.

Helder Ferraz's research focuses on social and educational inequalities, public policy evaluation, and social exclusion, particularly in the context of the Portuguese TEIP program. His work critically examines the effectiveness of compensatory education, access to higher education, and systemic inequities. He has also expanded into interdisciplinary areas such as climate adaptation for vulnerable urban elderly populations and inclusive care for LGBTQI+ seniors.
His recent publications and projects reveal a strong trend in policy-relevant research using mixed and quantitative methods. Themes include educational equity, life-course achievement, informal caregiving, and digital hate speech prevention. His work bridges academic research with practical interventions and policy recommendations.
Helder has served as a peer reviewer for international journals and participated in evaluation teams for A3ES and Erasmus+. He has also contributed to professional training materials, such as guides for caregivers and workshops on family resilience.
