Prof. Dr. Heinz-R. Köhler is a full professor (W3) and head of the Animal Physiological Ecology section at the University of Tübingen, Germany, within the Faculty of Science and Department of Biology. He serves as a former Dean of Studies for the Biology Department (2013-2015) and has held leadership roles including Founding Director of the Institute of Evolution and Ecology (2009-2018). His academic journey includes a PhD from the University of Heidelberg (1992) and a Habilitation (1996), with extensive postdoctoral research across European institutions.
Research focuses on ecotoxicology, physiological responses to environmental stressors, and biomarkers in invertebrates. He has pioneered studies on heavy metal impacts, heat shock proteins (Hsp70), and the effects of pollutants like diclofenac and pesticides. Awards include the Medal of the University (Romania, 2000) and a Diploma of Excellence from Western University Vasile Goldis.
Publications span over 150 peer-reviewed articles, emphasizing aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Key projects include the EU-funded NOMIRACLE (2004-2009) and collaborations with global institutions. His work integrates molecular, cellular, and population-level responses to environmental challenges.
