Heini Hakosalo serves as Senior Research Fellow and Associate Professor (dosentti) at the University of Oulu's Faculty of Humanities within the Department of History, Culture and Communication Studies. Her scholarly work centers on the dynamic interplay between social contexts and medico-scientific practices throughout modern history.
Her research specializes in History of Medicine and Health, with particular expertise in brain sciences, tuberculosis, medical education gender dynamics, and birth cohort studies. Current investigations through the Resistant Cities: Urban Planning as Means for Pandemic Prevention (RECIPE) project examine historical connections between urban development and epidemic control strategies. This work extends her established focus on how societal frameworks shape epidemiological knowledge production.
