Hein Fleuren is Full Professor of Business Analytics and Operations Research at Tilburg University and co-founder/director of the Zero Hunger Lab. His research applies operations research methodologies to humanitarian challenges, particularly optimizing food supply chains to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger).
Fleuren's innovations include the OPTIMUS model adopted by the UN World Food Programme, enabling food assistance for 2 million additional people. He received Franz Edelman Awards in 2012 and 2021 for transformative applications of analytics in logistics and humanitarian response.
His teaching focuses on translating analytical solutions into practical implementations, covering professional skills development for operations research practitioners. Current collaborations include partnerships with World Food Programme, Dutch Food Banks, and Solidaridad.
