Prof. Heiko Jacobs is Chairholder of Finance at the University of Duisburg-Essen’s Faculty of Economics and Business Administration since 2017. Previously, he was a research associate, doctoral student, and academic counselor at the University of Mannheim (2007–2017), where he earned his PhD in 2011. His research focuses on asset pricing, financial markets, and investor behavior, with notable contributions on media effects, market anomalies, and diversification strategies. He holds a Diplom-Kaufmann (business administration) from Saarland University (2002–2006).
His work explores how media coverage influences stock mispricing and momentum effects, the role of journalist disagreement in predicting market returns, and the persistence of anomalies across global markets. Recent studies include analyzing international factor models and evaluating diversification strategies for individual investors. Jacobs’ research frequently employs large-scale datasets and natural experiments, such as regional holidays in Germany to study local bias effects.
His articles consistently address themes like investor sentiment, arbitrage constraints, and the dynamics of financial anomalies. Notable contributions include linking alphabetical stock listings to trading activity and demonstrating that mispricing is prevalent even in developed markets. He has advised numerous students on thesis projects and contributed to curriculum development in finance education.
