Dr. Heiko Apel is a researcher at the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) in the Section 5.4 Hydrology. He leads key components of the WISDOM project, including WP4000 (Component Leader), WP4110 (Hydrology of the Mekong Basin), and WP4210 (Hydraulics of the Mekong Delta). His work focuses on hydrological modeling, hydraulic simulation, model calibration, and field measurements of hydrological and hydraulic dynamics.
Education: PhD in Geoecology (2002) from TU Braunschweig, followed by a diploma (1998) and undergraduate studies (1991–1998) in Geoecology at the same institution.
Research interests include integrated water resource management, flood dynamics, and sediment transport in large river basins, particularly the Mekong Delta. His expertise bridges field data collection and computational modeling for environmental systems analysis.
