Prof. Heidrun Rosenthal is a Professor at the Department of Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Environmental Engineering at Hochschule Weiden. She leads the Molecular Biology Laboratory (E.115) and serves as a study advisor in Environmental Protection. Her work integrates Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Microbiology with environmental applications.
Research interests include microbial colonization of microplastics, wastewater treatment optimization, biogas production, and sustainable resource management. She has supervised numerous student theses on topics like non-invasive genetic analysis of brown bears, thermal disinfection processes, and energy efficiency in industrial systems.
Prof. Rosenthal leads collaborative projects such as digitizing teaching methods and promoting biodiversity in agricultural regions. Her interdisciplinary approach spans environmental engineering, renewable energy, and molecular biology, reflected in courses like Technology of Renewable Energies and Environmental Engineering Practical Courses.
Her laboratory focuses on innovative methods such as microbial fuel cells and brilliant black reduction tests for wastewater analysis. Projects also address methane emission reduction, biodegradability assessments, and CO2 utilization.
