Heidi Pauwels is a Professor and South Asian Program Coordinator in the Department of Asian Languages and Literature at the University of Washington. She specializes in Hindi and Sanskrit literature, Hinduism, and South Asian cultural studies. Her research focuses on classical and modern Hindi literature, Indo-Persian court culture, and the history of Urdu.

Research Interests: Dr. Pauwels' work examines the intersection of classical Hindi devotional poetry with Rajasthani court traditions, as seen in her project on Nagridas and Bani Thani. She also studies the reception of Urdu poet Vali in 18th-century Delhi salons, collaborating with Purnima Dhavan. Her research has been supported by prestigious fellowships such as the NEH and Guggenheim.
