Heidi M.J. Bertels is a Full Professor of Management at the Chazanoff School of Business, CUNY College of Staten Island (CSI). She also serves as campus co-director and academic champion for Blackstone LaunchPad at CSI. Previously, she was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh. She holds a PhD in Technology Management from Stevens Institute of Technology and MA/BS degrees in Integral Product Development from the University of Antwerp.
Her research focuses on entrepreneurship, innovation management, and creativity, with publications in top journals like Journal of Product Innovation Management and Management and Organization Review. Key awards include the 2020 Emerald Literati Award and 2019 CASE/Emerald Best Case Award for her influential case studies.
Bertels administers the Blackstone LaunchPad grant, fostering entrepreneurial skills at CSI. Her teaching spans courses in strategic management, entrepreneurship, and organizational theory, earning recognition such as the Joseph M. Katz Excellence in Teaching Award. She actively serves on the Eastern Academy of Management and CASE Association boards.
Research grants include support from Innovation Research Interchange and PSC CUNY. Her work emphasizes bridging academic theory with practical applications, particularly in fostering innovation and equitable entrepreneurship education.
