Heidi M. Levitt

Dr. Heidi M. Levitt is a Professor in the Clinical Psychology program at the University of Massachusetts Boston. She serves as Editor for Qualitative Psychology and former Associate Editor for Psychotherapy Research. Dr. Levitt chaired the development of APA's Journal Article Reporting Standards for Qualitative Research and the Society for Qualitative Inquiry in Psychology (SQIP) guidelines.

• Specializes in psychotherapy process/outcome research and LGBTQ+ minority stress
• Developed the Pausing Inventory Categorization System to analyze session dynamics

Her research examines:

• Common factors across psychotherapy approaches (emotion, silence, resistance)
• Gender identity/expression in GLBTQ+ communities
• Prevention of HIV transmission among African-American men who have sex with men

Scientific recognition includes:
