Heidi F Christianson

Heidi F Christianson, PhD, MS is an Associate Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin specializing in Behavioral Health Psychology. She provides psychological services at the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Clinical Cancer Center, with particular expertise in the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program where she performs pre-BMT evaluations and follow-up psychological care.

Dr. Christianson's research focuses on coping and adjustment to cancer, clinical treatment efficacy in health psychology settings, men's issues, and geropsychology. She currently manages a bank of psychosocial data for coping and adjustment prior to stem cell transplant. Her clinical work addresses adjustment to illness, psychological disorders co-existing with cancer diagnosis, complicated patient and family situations, and maladaptive behavioral coping strategies.

Her publication record demonstrates expertise in psychological interventions for cancer patients and trauma treatment, with articles spanning cognitive adaptation theory in late-stage cancer, PTSD treatments following physical injuries, and innovative therapy approaches for trauma patients who haven't responded to conventional treatments.

Dr. Christianson serves as the Training Director for the Health Psychology Residency Program at the Medical College of Wisconsin, a predoctoral psychology internship program focused on health service psychology within hospital settings. She also holds the position of Chair-Elect of the Health Psychology Section of Division 17 of the American Psychological Association.

She provides comprehensive psychological services at multiple locations including the Clinical Cancer Center at Froedtert Hospital and Moorland Reserve Health Center, treating patients with depression, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, cancer adjustment issues, and other psychological sequelae related to chronic illness.
