Heidi A. Campbell is a Professor of Communication at Texas A&M University, with affiliations in Religious Studies and as a Presidential Impact Fellow. She directs the Network for New Media, Religion and Digital Culture Studies and is a founder of Digital Religion studies. Her research explores the intersection of digital and mobile media with religious practices, focusing on Jewish, Muslim, and Christian communities. She co-edits Routledge’s Religion and Digital Culture series and journals in the field.
Her work emphasizes the 'religious-social shaping of technology' (RSST), analyzing how religious groups negotiate new technologies. Key topics include digital Judaism, mobile religious apps, and the interplay between online/offline religious practices. She has authored over 100 articles and books, including seminal works like When Religion Meets New Media and Digital Religion.
Awards include the RCA Scholar of the Year and TAMU’s Transformational Teaching Award. She teaches courses on technology, media theory, and religious communication, contributing to both academic and public discourse through media outlets like The Guardian and BBC World Service.
