Dr. Hee Yeon Im is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia and an investigator at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute. She is also a member of the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health.
- PhD in Psychological & Brain Sciences, Johns Hopkins University (2013)
- MSc in Cognitive Science, Yonsei University (2008)
- BS in Psychology, Yonsei University (2006)
Her research investigates the neurocognitive mechanisms of perception-action integration, focusing on temporal and spatial brain dynamics in adults and children. Key projects include:
- Temporal dynamics of neural communication in threat perception
- Ensemble vs object-level visual processing strategies
- Functional connectivity in developmental disorders (dyslexia, etc.)
- MEG decoding of language processing in pediatric populations
Her recent publications (2016-2023) highlight cross-cultural emotion processing, visuomotor adaptation, and pathway-specific neural responses to emotional stimuli, with a strong emphasis on neuroimaging (MEG/fMRI) and psychophysics. She received the CIHR Spring 2025 Project Grant and leads the Interactive Mind & Movement Lab (IMM Lab), mentoring doctoral candidates, research assistants, and postdoctoral fellows in understanding brain development and perception-action links in typical and atypical populations.
