Heather Yule serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Cellular & Physiological Sciences within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. She teaches histology, gross anatomy, and microscopic anatomy to medical, dental, and undergraduate students while facilitating problem-based learning tutorials across the MD curriculum.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD in Oncology, Queen's University of Belfast (2002)
- MSc in Anatomy, University of British Columbia (1998)
- BSc in Animal Biology, University of British Columbia (1994)
Dr. Yule's research focuses exclusively on medical education methodology, where she supervises summer research projects for MD students. Having transitioned from breast cancer research after her 2002-2004 postdoctoral fellowship, she specializes in anatomy pedagogy and curriculum development for first- and second-year medical education. Her teaching spans histology laboratories, gross anatomy instruction, and Anatomy 390 undergraduate lectures.
She began teaching at UBC as a histology teaching assistant during her MSc studies, later instructing at University College of the Fraser Valley (2005-2007) before returning to UBC in 2007 with the MD program expansion.
