Heather Vellers serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Sport Management at Texas Tech University, where she conducts research at the intersection of exercise physiology and genetics. Her office is located in Room 102 with contact number (806) 834-8554.
Education
- B.S. in Exercise Science from University of North Carolina at Charlotte (2010)
- M.S. in Clinical Exercise Physiology from University of North Carolina at Charlotte (2012)
- Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from Texas A&M University (2016)
- Postdoctoral Research Fellow at National Institute of Environmental Health Science (2018)
Dr. Vellers' research program investigates mitochondrial genetics and genetic mechanisms underlying endurance trainability and elite athletic performance. She employs molecular approaches to identify how genetic variations influence physiological adaptations to exercise, with implications for personalized training protocols and understanding athletic excellence.
