Heather Russell is a Senior Lecturer in Rural Health at the University of Sydney's School of Rural Health Dubbo/Orange. As a rural general practitioner and advanced trainee in public health medicine, her work bridges clinical practice and academic research. She focuses on improving health equity through education and addressing social determinants of health.
Education: MBBS, BMedSci(Hons), MPHTM, FRACGP.
Research Interests: Primary care innovation, public health education, and telehealth applications in aged care. She developed the Australian Rural Health Game, an educational tool exploring social determinants of health, and evaluates teaching modules for building patient social histories in rural settings.
Current Projects: Co-leading the PEARL program for early academic rural leaders, virtual wound care studies in aged care (GRACE-Telehealth and GRACE-VC studies), and social history teaching evaluations.
Grants: Lead researcher in NHMRC-funded studies on telehealth in aged care (GRACE-Telehealth, GRACE-VC).
Thesis: Investigating virtual wound care in Australian aged care settings under Professors Barakat-Johnson, Makeham, and Luscombe.
