Heather Price is a Professor of Psychology and Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Culture and Communities: Children and the Law at Thompson Rivers University (TRU). Her research focuses on improving children’s participation in legal systems through understanding their memory capabilities and forensic interview methodologies. She holds a BA (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Victoria, an MA and PhD in Law and Psychology from Simon Fraser University, and postdoctoral fellowships from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Wilfrid Laurier University.
Her work emphasizes children’s memory for repeated traumatic events and legal system adaptations. Key contributions include developing best practices for investigative interviews, analyzing judicial handling of child testimony, and advocating for systemic reforms to accommodate children’s needs. She leads the Children and the Law Laboratory at TRU, funded by NSERC and SSHRC, focusing on eyewitness identification, lineup procedures, and trauma effects on memory.
Recent research highlights include studying pandemic impacts on child maltreatment investigations and advancing methodologies for cold case evidence extraction. Price trains law enforcement and social workers to improve child interview practices, emphasizing accuracy and reducing bias. Her work aims to enhance legal outcomes for child victims while ensuring credible evidence collection.
