Heather Littlefield is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Linguistics at Northeastern University. She earned her PhD in Applied Linguistics from Boston University, with research focusing on syntactic properties of lexical and functional categories and the acquisition of prepositions.
Her teaching includes courses like Syntax, Language Acquisition, History of English, Research Seminar in Linguistics, and Topics in Linguistics (notably on Pidgins and Creoles). She also contributes to the Honors Program through freshman inquiry courses and upper-level seminars on linguistic diversity, discrimination, and language identity.
Research & Mentoring: Professor Littlefield actively mentors undergraduate research, guiding over 30 independent projects and 20 Honors Projects. She founded the biannual Research in Linguistics Poster Session in 2014, enabling over 100 students annually to present their work.
