Heather Bryan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), affiliated with the Faculty of Environment and the NRES Graduate Program. She holds a PhD from the University of Calgary and specializes in wildlife ecology and conservation science. Her research focuses on wildlife health, predator-prey interactions, conservation physiology, disease ecology, and community-engaged research. She supervises MSc students in the NRES program and is available for media inquiries as an expert on wildlife conservation and ecology.
Dr. Bryan’s work integrates interdisciplinary approaches, including collaborations with Indigenous communities to advance conservation practices. She leads the Bioindicator Lab and has published extensively on topics such as human-predator ecology, grizzly bear behavior, and the physiological responses of wildlife to environmental stressors. Her research emphasizes bridging ecological science with community-driven solutions to ensure sustainable conservation outcomes.
Her current roles include teaching and supervising graduate students, as well as contributing to the UNBC’s research initiatives in the Faculty of Environment. She advocates for policy-relevant research that addresses anthropogenic impacts on ecosystems and promotes ethical wildlife management practices.
