He Bian is an Associate Professor at Princeton University, affiliated with the History and East Asian Studies departments. Her research focuses on the intersection of book history, the history of science, and cultural studies in early modern China.
- Ph.D. in History of Science from Harvard University (2014)
Her groundbreaking book, Know Your Remedies: Pharmacy and Culture in Early Modern China (Princeton University Press, 2020), explores the evolution of medical knowledge through the lens of book culture. She is currently expanding this work with two new projects examining shifts in natural history and medical recipe compilation during China's early modern era.
She has contributed scholarly articles to journals such as Late Imperial China, Early Science and Medicine, and the Harvard Journal of Asiatic Studies, all centered on book history's role in shaping knowledge systems.
