Hazem Wannous is a Professor of Computer Science at Institut Mines-Télécom Lille-Douai, France, where he has been employed since July 2020. He is a member of the Centre de Recherche en Informatique, Signal et Automatique de Lille (CRIStAL - UMR CNRS 9189) and part of the MINT research team focused on gesture interaction methods and tools.
His research interests span computer vision, machine learning, human-computer interaction, and virtual reality. Dr. Wannous specializes in 3D human motion analysis, gesture recognition, and action recognition using depth sensors and RGB-D cameras. His work bridges theoretical computer science with practical applications in human behavior understanding.
Dr. Wannous has served as a regular reviewer for top journals including IEEE Transactions on PAMI, Image Processing, Medical Imaging, and Multimedia. He co-organized the International Workshop on Understanding Human Activities through 3D Sensors (UHA3DS) in 2015 and 2016, and has served as PC member and Area Chair for international conferences including IAPR ICPR 2014.
As an educator, he teaches courses across multiple levels at IMT Lille-Douai including Algorithmic and Structured Programming, Advanced Programming Technologies, 3D Digital Entertainment Technologies, and Multimedia Indexing and Retrieval.
