Dr. Hasan Deniz is a Professor of Science Education and Director of the CMSEE Department at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. His research focuses on science and engineering education, particularly exploring students' and teachers' epistemological beliefs about science/engineering, evolution education, and computational thinking integration. He teaches graduate-level science education courses and emphasizes linguistically inclusive curricula for multilingual classrooms. Dr. Deniz’s work spans robotics in STEM education, AI literacy for pre-service teachers, and teacher professional development programs.
His research interests include nature of science (NOS), engineering education, and the design of effective teacher training programs. He has developed innovative curricula integrating computer science, robotics, and language arts aligned with Next Generation Science Standards. Dr. Deniz also investigates factors influencing acceptance of evolutionary theory among preservice teachers and strategies for improving science teaching efficacy beliefs through reflective practices.
Recent work focuses on leveraging educational technology (e.g., robotics, machine learning applications) to enhance STEM learning outcomes for diverse student populations. He has pioneered linguistically inclusive approaches to CS education and AI literacy programs for K-12 settings. His contributions bridge theory and practice, emphasizing equitable access to STEM education.
Dr. Deniz holds a Ph.D. in science education and has extensive teaching experience in secondary and university settings. He has collaborated internationally on engineering education projects and led professional development initiatives for science teachers globally, including in Vietnam and Uganda. His research has been published widely, with a focus on advancing pedagogical strategies for complex scientific and engineering concepts.
