Dr. Harvey Yi Huang is a Reader in Materials Chemistry and Engineering at the University of Edinburgh (UoE), holding dual roles as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the International Association of Advanced Materials. He earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering at Monash University, followed by postdoctoral research at institutions like Georgia Tech and the University of Minnesota. His expertise spans chemical engineering, materials science, and environmental applications, with a focus on advanced functional materials for energy-efficient separation, water treatment, and carbon capture.
Research Interests: Dr. Huang specializes in designing porous materials (e.g., graphene, MOFs), nanofabrication, and membranes for gas storage, water purification, and environmental remediation. His work bridges fundamental material science with scalable industrial solutions, addressing global challenges like sustainable manufacturing and healthcare applications.
Key Achievements: He has secured over £2.5M in research funding since 2021, leading projects on graphene commercialization and material innovations. His editorial roles include Elsevier’s Separation and Purification Technology and Cambridge University Press’ Cambridge Prisms: Carbon Technologies. Notable awards include the 2022 Elsevier RINENG Distinguished Young Investigator and 2024/2025 EUSA Teacher of the Year.
Education and Training: PhD from Monash University, postdoctoral stints at Georgia Tech, University of South Carolina, and University of Oklahoma, alongside industry experience at CSIRO. He holds a joint degree in Chemical Engineering and Economics from Harbin Engineering University.
