Prof. Harry van Lenthe is a mechanical engineer and biomechanics expert at the Department of Biomechanics, KU Leuven. He leads a research group focused on improving medical care through biomechanical innovations, particularly in bone structure analysis and osteoarthritis treatment. His academic journey includes studies in Enschede, a PhD from Nijmegen, and postdoctoral work in Eindhoven and Switzerland.
Research interests revolve around bone microstructure quantification using advanced imaging (e.g., photon-counting CT), finite element modeling of bone fractures, and tendon-bone interface mechanics. He advocates for interdisciplinary approaches, emphasizing societal relevance in both fundamental and applied research.
As department head, he prioritizes fostering a supportive work environment. Personal passions include marathon running, which he views as mental and physical discipline. Notable achievements include pioneering a biomedical technology bachelor's program and advancing patient-specific in silico models for clinical applications.
