Dr Harriet Kemp is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London and Honorary Consultant in Pain Medicine at Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust. She holds dual affiliations within the Department of Surgery & Cancer and the Division of Anaesthetics, Pain Medicine & Intensive Care. Her academic career includes an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship and a PhD on chronic pain in HIV infection (2019).
Dr Kemp's research focuses on long-term pain outcomes following trauma, critical illness, and HIV infection. Key projects include the PainCRITICAL study (funded by Academy of Medical Sciences) investigating biomarkers for post-critical-care pain, and the ADVANCE Study analyzing combat injury-related pain. She pioneered sensory profiling techniques combining quantitative testing and patient-reported outcomes, and led systematic reviews on HIV pain epidemiology.
Her clinical work runs a specialist neuropathic pain service at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, and she co-led the PAINT Study improving pain assessment in intensive care. Awards include the Clulow Award (2017) and EU NeuroPain Grant. She contributed to national audits on perioperative anaphylaxis and pain management standards, and founded PAINTRAIN, a pain research trainee network.
Professional memberships include RAFT (Research and Audit Federation of Trainees) and the IASP Neuropathic Pain Special Interest Group. Her work bridges clinical practice, translational research, and patient-centered outcomes across multiple disciplines.
