معرفی
Dr. Harriet Groom is a Research Fellow and Postgraduate Tutor at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with the Department of Medicine and Downing College. Her research explores the intersection of molecular virology and cellular immunity, focusing on retroviruses, coronaviruses, and herpesviruses. She has contributed to understanding HIV gene expression, SAMHD1-mediated viral restriction, and the molecular basis of lentiviral immune evasion.
- Education: PhD in Medicine (University of Cambridge), undergraduate degree at Cambridge.
- Key Roles: Henslow Research Fellow at Downing College, Associate Principal Investigator in the Department of Medicine, Governing Body Fellow.
Research Interests center on cellular factors that inhibit retroviral replication, particularly the SAMHD1 protein. Her work investigates how interactions between viruses (e.g., HIV-1) and host cells influence antiviral responses, drug efficacy, and broader cellular behavior. She also studies SARS-CoV-2 replication mechanisms and retroviral restriction factors like APOBEC3.
Selected Publications include groundbreaking studies in journals such as Nature and PLoS Pathogens, addressing SAMHD1’s role in HIV restriction, XMRV’s lack of association with chronic fatigue syndrome, and structural insights into lentiviral immune evasion.
Collaborations span institutions like the Francis Crick Institute and University of Cambridge, with affiliations in the Department of Medicine and Downing College. Her email is graduatetutor@sid.cam.ac.uk.
