Harriet Drouin

Dr Harriet Drouin is a Teaching Professor at the School of Chemical, Materials and Biological Engineering, University of Sheffield. She joined the institution in July 2022 and serves as the academic lead for CMB003 Advanced Level Chemistry and CMB002/5 Introduction to Engineering (group and individual projects). She also acts as Co-admissions tutor for the school.

Education:

• PhD in Guided Bone Regeneration (2011) from the School of Clinical Dentistry, University of Sheffield
• Studied Nanotechnology at the University of Leeds

Her research interests lie in the interdisciplinary fields of Biomedical Engineering, Tissue Engineering, and Materials Science, with a focus on Guided Bone Regeneration and applications of Nanotechnology in biomedical contexts. Prior to her current role, she was associated with the Bioengineering Tissue Lab in the Diamond building (2018–2022) as a Senior Engineering Technician.

Professional Activities and Memberships:

• Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA)
• Member of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine

Dr Drouin’s teaching responsibilities include delivering foundational courses in chemistry and engineering to students in the Science and Engineering Foundation Year (SEFY). Outside academia, she is an avid fell runner with 24 ultramarathons completed, including two 108-mile races.
