Dr. Harriet Churchill is a Senior Lecturer and Director of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Sheffield's School of Sociological Studies, Politics and International Relations. She holds a BA and PhD and is a Higher Education Academy Fellow (FHEA). Her research focuses on social policy, family support systems, and welfare state restructuring, with a particular emphasis on children, families, and social equality. She has led comparative studies across Europe through the European Family Support Network (EuroFam Net), examining digitalization in family support services and cross-national policy frameworks.
Her teaching roles include convening modules on welfare systems and children's welfare policies. She has published extensively, including books like Parental Rights and Responsibilities and articles in journals such as Families, Relationships and Societies. Her recent work explores the impact of digital tools on family support and the evaluation of policies like the Troubled Families Programme.
Harriet is a member of the Social Policy Association and contributes to the journal Families, Relationships and Societies. Her grants include a Nuffield Foundation project on virtual parent support portals and European COST Action funding for family support research. She advocates for evidence-based policies to enhance children’s rights and family welfare.
