Harmesh Aojula is a Senior Lecturer in the Division of Pharmacy and Optometry at the University of Manchester. With over 25 years of experience in academia, industry, and SMEs, he transitioned from a drug delivery research fellowship (1996–2004) to teaching roles, specializing in pharmaceutical analysis and drug development. He holds a PhD in Biological Chemistry (University of Essex, 1988) and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). His research focuses on nanomedicines using synthetic peptides and lipid formulations, targeting drug delivery improvements for diseases like TB, stroke, and cancer. He supervises PhD/MSc students, teaches undergraduate modules (e.g., PHAR 10300, PHAR 20100), and leads TBL initiatives. He also serves as a Governor/Ambassador at The Oldham Academy North since 2013.
Research interests include liposome-based drug delivery, therapeutic peptides, and controlled drug release mechanisms. Key projects involve antimicrobial delivery for intracellular infections, stabilizing protein therapeutics, and developing neuropeptide antagonists as anticancer agents. Collaborations span pharmaceutical manufacturing and nanotechnology, with 43+ publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Professional memberships include the Royal Society of Chemistry and Biochemical Society. His work aligns with UN SDGs addressing health and innovation.
