Haris Aziz is a Professor at UNSW Sydney and the leader of the Algorithmic Decision Theory group. He leads the UNSW AI Institute, one of Australia's largest AI institutes. His research focuses on artificial intelligence, computational social choice, algorithmic game theory, and fair division. He has been recognized with awards such as the Scientia Fellowship, IEEE AI's 10 to Watch, and multiple field leadership recognitions in game theory.
Education: PhD (Warwick), MSc (Oxford), BSc (LUMS). Postdoctoral research at LMU Munich and TU Munich. Visiting roles at Oxford, Harvard, and Paris Dauphine.
Research interests include multi-agent systems, algorithms, social choice theory, and network analysis. Over 200 publications across journals like TheoretiCS, AIJ, and conferences like IJCAI/AAMAS. Supervised numerous PhD students in computer science and related fields.
Awards: Recipient of CORE Chris Wallace Award (2017), Julius Career Award (2016–2018), and multiple research excellence recognitions. Serves on editorial boards of top journals and international committees such as IFAAMAS.
Teaching includes courses on Knowledge Representation, Algorithms, and Computational Game Theory. Actively involved in research supervision, conference organization, and promoting equitable AI applications.
