Harim Kim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Connecticut (Storrs campus). She holds academic appointments including previous roles at the Norwegian School of Economics (2021–2023) and a postdoc at the University of Mannheim (2017–2021). Her research focuses on Industrial Organization and Energy and Environmental Economics, with emphasis on electricity markets, cost pass-through mechanisms, and policy impacts of clean energy transitions.
Education: Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Michigan (2017), M.A. Economics (2013), B.A. Economics from Seoul National University (2009). Awards include the Rackham Fellowship and Mark and Lindsay Harms Scholar Fellowship.
Teaching expertise includes courses on Energy Economics, Antitrust Policy, and Industrial Organization. Her research has been presented at leading conferences such as NBER Summer Institute, EARIE, and IIOC. She serves as a referee for journals including Econometrica and Journal of Industrial Economics.
Current research explores strategic behavior in energy markets, asymmetric cost responses, and the competitive effects of coal-to-gas transitions. Her work highlights the interplay between market structure, policy interventions, and environmental outcomes.
