Harilaos N. Psaraftis is a Visiting Professor at The American College of Greece (ACG), alongside his roles as Professor at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) from 2013–2023 and previously at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) from 1989–2013. He holds a Diploma from NTUA and an M.Sc. and Ph.D. from MIT. His career spans academia and industry, including serving as CEO of the Piraeus Port Authority (1996–2002).
His research focuses on maritime logistics, green logistics, intermodal systems, and port efficiency. He has led 55 research projects, including 25 EU-funded initiatives, and coordinated three major EU projects at NTUA. His work emphasizes sustainable shipping practices and policy implications of maritime technologies.
Notable contributions include his book *Sustainable Shipping: A Cross-Disciplinary View* (Springer, 2019) and seminal studies on ship speed optimization, emission regulations, and autonomous shipping frameworks. His recent publications address alternative marine fuels, KPIs for autonomous shipping, and market-based environmental measures.
