Hao Chen

Hao Chen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), a core member of the UIC Center for Bioinformatics and Quantitative Biology (CBQB), and an affiliate faculty member in the UIC Department of Biomedical Engineering. He also serves as an Associate Editor for the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics.

Hao Chen’s research integrates computational biology and artificial intelligence to develop data-driven methods for analyzing biological systems. His work focuses on gene regulation dynamics, cellular response mechanisms, and high-resolution spatial transcriptomics, with applications in disease modeling and therapeutic development.

Recent trends in his publications highlight advancements in single-cell data integration (2025, Genome Research), spatial transcriptomics analysis (2024, Cell Reports Methods), and deep learning for drug target prediction (2024, Nature Communications). His lab has developed tools like GIANT, scResolve, and SCS to address challenges in multi-cellular data deconvolution and cell segmentation.
