معرفی
Hanu R. Pappu is a Professor and former Chair of the Department of Plant Pathology at Washington State University (WSU), part of the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS). He specializes in virology and plant pathology, focusing on viruses affecting horticultural crops, including tomatoes, onions, and ornamentals. His research emphasizes molecular biology, genomics, and the development of disease-resistant crops through biotechnology.
Education:
- Ph.D., University of Alberta (1989)
- M.Sc., Indian Agricultural Research Institute (1983)
- B.Sc. (Ag.), A.P. Agricultural University (1981)
Research Interests:
Dr. Pappu’s work includes studying viral diseases like Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV), Iris yellow spot virus (IYSV), and Dahlia mosaic virus. He investigates molecular mechanisms of virus-host interactions, genome editing for resistance, and the environmental impact of biotechnology. His research also addresses global challenges like maize lethal necrosis in Africa and viral diseases in sub-Saharan Africa.
Publications & Awards:
He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Notable awards include the Alexander von Humboldt Research Award (2018), Honorary Professorship at the University of Queensland (2019), and multiple Fulbright Fellowships. He holds the Carl F. Chuey Endowed Chair in Plant Pathology.
Grants & Collaborations:
His work is funded by USDA, NSF, and international agencies. Collaborative projects span 20+ countries, addressing tospoviruses in vegetables, legumes, and ornamentals. He chairs multistate research committees on virus management and serves on editorial boards of Plant Disease and Journal of Plant Pathology.
Labs & Teams:
He leads the Plant Virology Lab at WSU, focusing on molecular diagnostics, virus epidemiology, and translational research to combat crop diseases globally.
