Prof. Hans-Jürgen Wester is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Radiochemistry at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), holding a chair in the Faculty of Chemistry and Medicine since 2010. His research focuses on developing radiolabeled probes and therapeutics for molecular imaging and targeted cancer treatments, particularly in oncology, neurology, and cardiology. He completed his doctorate in nuclear chemistry at the University of Cologne and advanced his career at TUM’s Department of Nuclear Medicine, becoming an associate professor in 2004 before attaining his current position.
His work has led to clinical applications of radiopharmaceuticals such as [177Lu]pentixather and PSMA-targeted agents. Key contributions include preclinical and clinical evaluations of radioligands for therapies and diagnostics. Prof. Wester has declined offers from institutions like the University of Alabama to continue his work at TUM.
His research spans theranostic agents, CXCR4-directed therapies, and PSMA-based imaging/surgery guidance. Recent publications address guidelines for PSMA PET/CT and Lu-PSMA radioligand therapy protocols.
