Hans Erik Heje is a PhD Fellow in the Department of Electronic Systems at Aalborg University's Technical Faculty of IT and Design in Copenhagen, Denmark. His research focuses on computational linguistics with particular emphasis on underrepresented language communities and their technological representation.
His primary research interests include Transfer Learning, Machine Translation, and Computational Linguistics, with specialized focus on Creole languages and their relationship to marginalized linguistic groups. Dr. Heje's work addresses critical gaps in natural language processing for historically overlooked languages, contributing to more inclusive AI systems that serve diverse global populations.
His recent publications demonstrate a cohesive research trajectory focused on developing benchmarking frameworks for Creole languages, exploring how transfer learning techniques can be adapted for linguistic contexts that have been systematically excluded from mainstream NLP research. This work has significant implications for making language technologies more accessible across diverse linguistic communities.
Currently, Hans Erik Heje is actively participating in the AI:SECURITY project at Aalborg University (2025-2029) as a project participant, where he contributes to research on AI security, malicious actors, and phishing email detection systems. This project represents an expansion of his research into security applications of AI technologies while maintaining his core focus on linguistic diversity in computational systems.
