Hans Dreyer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Physiology at the University of Oregon's College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on skeletal muscle physiology and metabolism across age groups, using stable isotope tracers and molecular biology techniques to analyze muscle protein synthesis, cell signaling, and gene expression.
- B.S. in Physical Therapy, California State University, Long Beach (1998)
- Ph.D. in Biokinesiology, University of Southern California (2004)
- Postdoctoral training at University of Texas Medical Branch
His work investigates:
- Muscle regrowth during rehabilitation
- Effects of amino acid supplementation
- Postoperative muscle changes in total knee arthroplasty (TKA)
- Cellular adaptations to hypoxia and aging
Recent publications examine TKA-induced muscle atrophy, ER stress, and nutritional interventions. Funded by NIH's National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research, his grant explores whether amino acid supplements enhance recovery after knee surgery. He also investigates environmental physiology through high-altitude studies.
