Hans Dam Christensen is a Professor in Cultural Communication at the University of Copenhagen's Department of Communication (formerly part of the Royal School of Library and Information Science). He holds a prominent academic role within the Faculty of Humanities and has served in administrative leadership positions including Deputy Director (2013-2017), Dean of Research (2010-2013), and Head of Department (2008-2010). His research focuses on visual studies, art historiography, and museum studies, with particular attention to issues of authenticity, cultural representation, and institutional practices.
Christensen's academic journey includes over 15 years as an Associate Professor (2005-2014) and has produced influential work across museum communication, art reproduction ethics, and interdisciplinary cultural analysis. His publications bridge theoretical inquiry with practical museum practices, addressing topics such as the role of copies in museums, gender representation in cultural institutions, and semiotic approaches to visual communication.
Notable outputs include co-editing Museums as cultures of copies: The crafting of authenticity and artefacts (2019), and authoring articles on museum authenticity, image indexing, and Saussurean semiotics. His work often critiques conventional academic methodologies while proposing innovative frameworks for understanding cultural communication.
