Hans Christian Garmann Johnsen is a Professor at the Department of Economics and Finance, School of Business and Law, University of Agder. He holds a Siv.øk. (Master of Science in Economics) from the Norwegian School of Economics, a cand. polit. (Master of Political Science) from the University of Bergen, and a Ph.D. from Copenhagen Business School.
His academic roles include Visiting Professorships at Deusto University (Spain) and NTNU (Norway), as well as Senior Researcher at NORCE. He has been a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley, Cornell University, and Kingston University. His research focuses on innovation studies, workplace innovation, and the philosophy of science, with contributions to EU Horizon projects.
Johnsen’s research emphasizes collaborative innovation, regional development, and the intersection of science and philosophy. He authored Science Meets Philosophy: What Makes Science Divided but Still Significant (Routledge, 2023) and co-edited volumes like Coping with the Future (Routledge, 2018). He serves as Managing Editor of the European Journal of Workplace Innovation and teaches philosophy of science courses.
His recent publications explore topics like regional leadership, CSR evolution, and methodological approaches to future studies. He was awarded the Sørlandets Kompetansefonds Prize for Excellence in Research (2023). His work bridges theoretical and applied research, contributing to sustainability, innovation policy, and regional knowledge systems.
