Professor Hannu TT Toivonen is a Full Professor at the University of Helsinki's Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Science. He has held leadership roles including Vice-Dean of Academic Affairs (2018-21), Head of the Department of Computer Science (2007-09), and founding director of the Data Science MSc program (2016-18). His research focuses on data mining, computational creativity, and AI applications in fields like gene mapping and natural language generation. He has secured over €7M in external funding, including EU projects, and holds 10 patents.
- Education: PhD in Computer Science from University of Helsinki (1996)
- Industrial Experience: 6 years at Nokia Research Centre
Research interests span AI ethics, machine learning, and interdisciplinary applications. He has published 200+ refereed papers with 25,000+ citations (h-index 57). Recent work includes computational creativity exhibitions and AI ethics discussions in Finnish media.
