Hannu Schadewitz is a Professor of Accounting at the Department of Accounting and Finance, Turku School of Economics, University of Turku since 2001. He previously held faculty positions at the University of Tampere School of Management. His research focuses on discretionary corporate reporting, international accounting, governance, and sustainability, particularly examining EU integration's impact on financial transparency, legal systems' role in accounting quality, and corporate sustainability in the dairy industry. He leads doctoral studies in Accounting and Finance and has supervised numerous Master’s and PhD theses.
Education: M.Sc. (1985), Lic.Sc. (1993), and D.Sc. (1997) from Aalto University School of Business (formerly the University of Helsinki's School of Business). Professional experience includes internal auditing at Finnair Group. Awards include Junior Fellow of the Academy of Finland and leadership of a funded Academy of Finland research project.
Research themes emphasize cross-border accounting harmonization, sustainability reporting in agribusiness, and governance dynamics. His work bridges academic rigor with practical implications for financial transparency and corporate accountability.
Teaching includes executive courses on financial statement analysis and corporate finance. Grants include significant funding from the Academy of Finland. His lab/teams collaborate on EU integration studies and sustainability in global industries.
