Hanne Røe-Indregård

Hanne Røe-Indregård is an Associate Professor at Oslo Metropolitan University, affiliated with the Faculty of Teacher Education and International Studies and the Department of Kindergarten Teacher Education. She serves as Study Leader for Area 1 and is an active member of the research group Language and learning environment in kindergarten and school (SAMBA).

Her research centers on early language development, focusing on the quality of interactions in kindergarten settings. Key areas include dialogic reading, teacher–child communication, multilingualism, and linguistic environments for children, especially those from language-minority backgrounds. She investigates how conversation strategies, word diversity, and semantic responsiveness influence children's participation and language growth.

The recent publications reveal a strong focus on analyzing communication dynamics in book reading, play, and classroom dialogues. Her work spans both empirical research and practical dissemination, with studies published in journals like Child Development and Early Education and Development, as well as professional reports for municipalities. She has collaborated extensively with researchers such as Ellen Irén Brinchmann, Jannicke Karlsen, and Meredith L. Rowe.
