Dr. Hannah Wyles is a Research Fellow at the University of St Andrews' Sea Mammal Research Unit (SMRU) within the School of Biology. Her work focuses on applying spatial data modeling, statistics, and machine learning to study marine mammals' responses to climate change.
- Current role: NSF-NERC TARSAN Project analysing Weddell and Southern Elephant seals' behavioural data in Antarctica
- Developed a web application visualizing UK seal density estimates
- PhD research: Impacts of climate change on UK seals using Hidden Markov Models and CMIP5 projections
Research emphasizes seal ecology, climate scenario modeling (RCPs), and bridging gaps between complex data and policymakers.
Publications include seminal work on seabed geomorphology's role in marine predator habitat use.
