Hannah Werner is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Zurich, affiliated with the Faculty of Philosophy and the Department of Political Science. Her research focuses on deliberative democracy, democratic legitimacy, and public engagement with political institutions.
- Early-Career Fellow (2025–2026)
Her recent work examines the reliability of computational replications in political research, the problem-solving potential of deliberative minipublics, and the dynamics of legitimacy perceptions in participatory processes. She has published extensively in journals like Royal Society Open Science, European Journal of Political Research, and Comparative Political Studies, often employing experimental methods to analyze citizen behavior and democratic norms.
At UZH, she teaches courses such as Citizens Democratic Commitment in Times of Crisis and Demokratietheorien, and participates in the CIS Forschungskolloquium. Her research frequently addresses how instrumental considerations and procedural fairness shape public support for democratic institutions and referendums.
